Little Girl Swimming With Her Body Board
Parent & Child  Ages 6mo - 4 years old   (30 minute lessons)
   -  This course will help young children become comfortable in, on and around the water so that when the time comes, they are ready to learn how to swim on their own. The instructor will follow a plan to introduce new swimming and water safety skills that are developmentally appropriate and engaging for infants and young children up to preschool age. This class introduces you and your child to basic skills to get your child comfortable in the water.  As parents, you learn how to safely work with your child in the water, including how to appropriately support and hold your child in the water and how to prepare and encourage your child to participate fully and try the skills.  In addition, you are introduced to several water safety topics.  Your child receives an introduction to basic skills that lay a foundation for learning to swim.  An adult (it could be a parent, guardian or caregiver) is required to accompany each child in the water and participate in every class.  The adult participants learn too!

Preschool  Ages 3 years old - 5 Years old  (30 minute lessons)
-   For each level of Preschool Aquatics, our instructors follow a plan to introduce new swimming and water safety skills that are developmentally appropriate for young children. These levels are for children ready to be on their own and learn the fundamentals of swimming.
-   Preschool Aquatics Level 1, your child is introduced to basic skills.  These skills lay the foundation for developing water competency and the future skill development of swimming strokes.  In addition, your child starts to develop positive attitudes and safe practices around the water. All skills will be performed with support from instructors.
-   Preschool Aquatics Level 2, This level marks the beginning of independent aquatic locomotion skills. Students need to pass Preschool Level 1 before entering this level. Children continue to explore using simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back to gain greater proficiency in preparation for performing strokes. New swimming skills and water safety skills are introduced to further the child's development of water competency preparing them for learn to swim classes. All skills are still performed with support as needed, but students are encouraged to be more on their own.

Learn to Swim   Ages 5 years old and up   (45 minute lessons)
-   For every level of Learn-to-Swim, our instructors follow a plan to introduce new swimming and water safety skills and build on previously learned skills. It is common for children to participate in several sessions of a level before they successfully demonstrate each skill.  That is okay!  It is not important how quickly they move through a level, but that they acquire each skill. We ask that parents do not sit near the lessons, as students find this distracting. We want your child to learn to be independent in the water and this helps the instructor and students focus on this.
-   Level 1 - Introduction to Water Skills, your child is introduced to basic skills as the foundation for future skills and the development of water competency (the basic minimum skills needed for water safety). Students can enter Level 1 even if they have not completed the Preschool Levels, however, students in Level 1 are usually between the ages of 5 and 7.
-   Level 2 - Fundamental Aquatic Skills builds on skills learned in Level 1.  Your child begins to perform skills at a slightly more advanced level and begins gaining rudimentary propulsive skills on both the front and the back.  This level marks the beginning of independent aquatic locomotion skills. We ask that students have passed Level 1 before being enrolled in Level 2.
-   Level 3 - Stroke Development builds on skills learned in previous levels.  Your child learns to swim the front crawl and elementary backstroke at rudimentary levels, is introduced to the scissors and dolphin kicks, learns the survival float, and increases the time duration for treading water.  Your child also learns the rules for headfirst entries and begins to learn to enter the water headfirst from a seated position at the poolside in 9 feet deep water or deeper. Due to the more advanced nature of this level, students need to have passed Level 2 before entering this level. This is one of the hardest level that students take and it often requires several sessions before all of the skills are passed.
-   Level 4 - Stroke Improvement works on improving the swimming stroke proficiency and swimming for longer distances.
-   Level 5 - Stroke Refinement, the instructor follows a plan to refine all six swimming strokes including swimming for longer distances.  The expectations are higher in regards to distance and quality. Students are usually between the ages of 9 and 11 before entering this level.
-    Level 6 - Students are expected to be proficient in almost every stroke. There are two sections that are offered with Level 6: Personal Water Safety and Fitness Swimmer. The availability of each section is based on instructors and student enrollment.

Adult Lessons-

-This class is for those over 18 that are interested in learning to swim, either for safety or fitness reasons. Participants can be at any level to enroll in the adult classes. The swim instructor will work with participants to determine their needs at the start of the session and what goals they have. The sections can be broken up by skill level if it is determined that several of the participants are at different stages.
